Oct 7, 2011   //   by Paavo Huhtanen   //   Ajankohtaista  //  No Comments

ESNA project won the ITEA Achievement Gold Award

Oct 7, 2011   //   by Paavo Huhtanen   //   Ajankohtaista  //  No Comments

The ESNA project (European Sensor Network Architecture) has received the ITEA Achievement Award 2010 gold medal at the ITEA co-summit in Ghent, Belgium. The award is given annually by the ITEA organization to “highly successful projects with outstanding contributions”.

The ITEA Board presents the Achievement Awards for high-level technical contributions based on real European collaboration that provide significant results while promoting the program and its goals. Each year, these prestigious honors highlight highly successful projects that represent best practice. Major factors include innovation, exploitation and dissemination.

The ITEA Board recognizes the important role that ESNA is playing in the Internet of things with business-oriented wireless-sensor network applications using a standard architecture and proof-of-concept implementations,” said Philippe Letellier, Vice-Chairman of the ITEA 2 Board. “ESNA offers an impressive balance between advanced technological innovation – including the world’s smallest implementation of IPV6 and optimization of radio communications between devices to reduce energy use – and a business-oriented approach to defining applications.

The ESNA project ran from 2006-2009 with the purpose of developing a technical foundation for wireless sensor networks. The ESNA project explored sensor networks in industrial contexts including energy monitoring and management, industrial process control, and precision agriculture.

Intar Oy was a part of Finnish delegation in ESNA together with Oulu University, VTI Technologies and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Intar has been developing solutions for wireless sensor networks with ESNA and other projects for the last four years.

The ITEA Achievement Award was announced at the ITEA & ARTEMIS Co-summit 2010 in Ghent, Belgium (26-27 October).
